The People Behind Velia
Fertility care has traditionally been reactive.
We believe it should also be proactive.
Maggie Thymi
Founder | Embryologist | MBA | MSc in ART | Scientific excellence, Strategy & Patient Experience
-
For almost 20 years, Maggie has worked at the heart of IVF laboratories across Australia and Europe.
Her expertise spans clinical embryology, laboratory leadership, quality systems, troubleshooting and operational management. She has helped establish IVF laboratories, implement quality frameworks, and optimise laboratory processes that support both clinical outcomes and patient care.
Alongside her scientific career, Maggie holds an MBA with a focus on healthcare strategy, leadership, and patient experience.
She is passionate about ensuring that scientific excellence and patient experience are viewed as equally important parts of fertility care.
She founded Velia from a growing belief that fertility care should become more proactive, accessible, and easier to understand.
"I believe fertility understanding should begin long before fertility treatment. When people understand their options earlier, they can make decisions with greater confidence, clarity, and choice."
Louise Curjak
Co-Founder | Embryologist | PhD | Fertility Education & Guidance -
Dr Louise Curjak is a scientist and embryologist whose work sits at the intersection of reproductive science, patient education, and fertility care.
Holding a PhD in embryology and extensive experience within IVF laboratories, Louise brings both scientific depth and clinical insight to her work. She has dedicated her career to understanding complex biological processes while remaining focused on their real-world impact on patients and families.
Through years of supporting fertility patients, she recognised that scientific advances alone are not enough. People also need access to clear, understandable information that helps them navigate decisions with confidence.
This belief became one of the foundations of Velia.
Louise is passionate about improving fertility literacy and helping bridge the gap between scientific knowledge and patient understanding. Through evidence-based education and guidance, she aims to support individuals in making informed decisions about their reproductive health and future family-building options.
"Information creates understanding. Understanding creates confidence. Confidence helps people make decisions that are right for them."
Nearly 40+ years of combined IVF experience. Thousands of patient journeys supported in Australia & Europe.
